RRAP – Past, present, and future

Biography

David Mead is AIMS’ Executive Director Strategic Development, which includes leading the Reef Restoration and Adaptation Program (RRAP) and a program of technology transformation for reef monitoring at AIMS. As a member of AIMS Leadership Team, he is engaged in the strategic planning and delivery of research.

He has an honours degree in mechanical engineering and tertiary qualifications in leadership (Oxford University Advanced Leadership Program), business (Master of Business Technology) and in maintenance management.

Prior to taking up his current role, David was Chief Operating Officer for AIMS, responsible for the operations of the Institute. This role included oversight of the “business of AIMS” and associated corporate planning and commercial development activities.

Prior to joining AIMS, David worked as a senior manager at Snowy Hydro Limited for 14 years, a renewable energy generation and electricity retail company. During this period he had a diverse range of roles including strategic planning and business development, new business ventures and leading functions responsible for asset management, maintenance and production operations. This work culminated in David being awarded the Australian Institute of Engineers inaugural Steve Maxwell Asset Management Leadership Award.

Prior to Snowy Hydro Limited David worked for several years at BHP Research as a research engineer, in areas that included mathematical and numerical modelling of explosive rock fracturing, blasting optimisation and mining equipment automation.
